Intellectica is recruiting a highly experienced Head of Accounting & Tax on behalf of its client, a leading company in the retail sector with a strong footprint in the Greek market. Known for its operational excellence, innovation, and customer-centric philosophy, the company is entering a new phase of strategic growth. Based in Attiki and reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the accounting function, ensuring financial accuracy, tax compliance, and team development.

Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Holding overall responsibility for the company’s accounting and tax operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective coordination across the finance team
  • Supervising the preparation and timely submission of all tax declarations (VAT, VIES, INTRASTAT, withholding tax, corporate tax), in line with Greek legislation
  • Monitoring compliance and contributing to strategic discussions with the CFO on accounting and tax-related matters, including risk areas and optimisation opportunities
  • Coordinating month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely delivery of financial statements
  • Overseeing general ledger activities, ensuring the team performs accurate and timely postings in the ERP system (SAP)
  • Supervising accounts payable processes, including invoice validation, payment scheduling, and supplier reconciliations
  • Overseeing accounts receivable operations, ensuring timely collections, customer account accuracy, and resolution of discrepancies
  • Ensuring proper processing and control of expense invoices, aligned with internal policies and budgetary guidelines
  • Managing fixed asset accounting, including oversight of master data creation, depreciation calculations, and reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with Greek GAAP, IFRS, and internal control frameworks, maintaining high standards of financial integrity
  • Monitoring key accounting KPIs and ensuring timely reporting to support management decision-making
  • Acting as the point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and public authorities on accounting and tax matters
  • Leading and mentoring the accounting team, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Any other task that may be required from time to time

Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master’s degree or postgraduate studies in Taxation will be considered a strong asset
  • Proven experience in a Big4 or tax firm; experience in a retail company will be considered a strong advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and tax roles
  • Proven experience in managing accounting teams and leading month/year-end closings
  • Strong knowledge of Greek GAAP, IFRS, and corporate tax regulations
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably SAP) and advanced Excel skills
  • Fluency in Greek and English (written and spoken)
