Intellectica is recruiting a Photo Editor on behalf of its client, a leading media organization with a strong footprint across print, digital, and multi-platform content. With an influential portfolio and a clear innovation agenda, the company is evolving into a modern, tech-enabled media group, delivering premium content and high-impact advertising solutions. Based in Athens, the successful candidate will be accountable for selecting the right hero image, producing publish-ready renditions for every placement (article, homepage modules, OG/social cards, and thumbnails), and maintaining a clean, searchable photo database (DAM)—ensuring speed, quality, and rights-safe publishing across the organization’s websites and social platforms.
Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:
A) Visual selection
- Select hero images and alternates for homepage leads, major breaking news, sensitive stories, and investigations
- Work from the editor’s brief and apply relevant judgement in the selection.
B) Visual production (Visual Producer execution)
- Produce the full photo/visual package for all promoted stories, including:
- Homepage module crops (all required sizes)
- OG / social card renditions (link preview formats)
- Vertical thumbnails (portrait crops) for mobile feeds, Reels, Shorts, TikTok
- Ensure each package is platform-ready (correct dimensions, safe areas, legibility, naming/versioning) and usable by Programming and Platforms Ops.
- Execute rapid swaps and fixes during breaking updates and promotions, including post-publish corrections where needed.
C) DAM ownership (photo database governance)
- Own the photo database (DAM) end-to-end: archive governance, metadata hygiene, naming conventions, versioning/renditions, and the creation/maintenance of approved pools for newsroom use.
D) Cross-desk cooperation
- Work daily with the Live Desk (ροής) to translate canonical coverage into the correct visual representation.
- Partner with the Programming Desk to ensure homepage leads have complete Asset Kits (hero images, crops, preview-ready renditions).
- Partner with Platforms Ops and Video/Shorts on thumbnails, platform-specific visual requirements, and rapid iteration during live moments.
- Any other task that may be required from time to time
Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate:
- 2+ years in newsroom photo editing / visual production in a digital publisher, agency, or broadcast newsroom environment (24/7 pace preferred).
- Hands-on capability with standard tools (e.g., Photoshop) and strong comfort working within CMS/DAM workflows.
- Experience managing or maintaining a DAM/photo archive: metadata taxonomy, naming conventions, and versioning.
- Fluency in Greek; working English for basic rights terms, tooling, and cross-team coordination.
Core competencies of a successful candidate:
- Editorial visual judgement: selects images that represent the story accurately and responsibly under time pressure.
- Speed & precision: produces renditions fast, with a zero-error QA mindset.
- Platform-aware thinking: understands how images behave across homepage modules, social cards, and vertical feeds.
- Operational ownership: keeps the DAM clean, searchable, and usable—especially during breaking moments.
- Collaboration: Cooperates smoothly across departments.
