Intellectica is recruiting a Senior WordPress Developer on behalf of its client, a fast-scaling technology and digital solutions company serving high-profile clients in the media sector. With a long-term strategic vision and strong leadership at the helm, the company is building a team of expert technologists and digital specialists to support media organisations in transforming their audience engagement, search visibility, and content performance through cutting-edge technology and data-driven marketing. Based in Athens, Greece, working in a hybrid work model and reporting directly to the CTO, the ideal candidate will take a leading role in shaping complex, high-impact digital solutions.
Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of complex, custom WordPress plugins and themes
- Architect and implement scalable, high-performance solutions for high-traffic, content-rich websites
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance
- Take ownership of the entire development lifecycle, from technical planning and estimation to deployment
- Optimize application performance by leveraging tools such as Redis and Elasticsearch
- Champion development best practices, coding standards, and robust deployment processes
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to translate business requirements into technical specifications
- Any other task that may be required from time to time
Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or a related field
- At least 5 years of professional web development experience with a strong focus on WordPress
- Proficiency in PHP, WordPress plugin/theme APIs, and the WordPress ecosystem
- Proven track record building and maintaining large-scale, high-traffic websites
- Excellent command of modern JavaScript (ES6+), CSS, and ideally TypeScript
- Professional experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework, preferably Angular
- Deep understanding of MySQL and experience writing efficient, complex queries
- Solid experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins)
- Strong leadership skills and a passion for mentoring other developers
- Fundamental understanding of the full web stack and commitment to writing clean, maintainable code
- Fluency in Greek and proficiency in English, both written and spoken
