Intellectica is recruiting a dynamic Accountant on behalf of a UK-based startup revolutionizing the recycling industry with data-driven AI. Backed by the most renowned ClimateTech investors in the US and the UK, Safi is on a mission to improve waste recovery rates and product quality. Based ideally in Greece or London with the ability to work remotely and reporting to the company’s Financial Controller, the successful candidate will support the establishment of a best in class finance and accounting function. Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Overseeing month-end close activities, including prepayments, accruals, fixed assets, inventory, and balance sheet reconciliation
  • Managing invoice finance tasks such as forecasting, transaction management, and automation initiatives
  • Conducting VAT return reviews to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Guaranteeing correct coding of OPEX invoices, including account and VAT codes
  • Reviewing employee and contractor expenses for adherence to Company policy
  • Handling claims, credit notes, and agent commissions effectively
  • Aiding in establishing and upholding robust financial controls
  • Driving the enhancement of current financial processes for greater efficiency
  • Providing vital support to the daily operations of the accounting team
  • Consistently achieving KPI targets in line with organizational goals
  • Responding to and managing ad-hoc financial requests and challenges
  • Any other task that may be required from time to time

Professional experience & qualifications of a successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting & finance or related field; a Masters’ degree is considered a plus
  • Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, CIMA)
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in Accounting & Finance; experience from Big 4 firms is considered a plus, while industry or start-up environment experience is a prerequisite
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS as well as UK VAT and tax is highly favored
  • Previous experience with Xero and SQL skills are preferred
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Fluent in English and Greek (both written and verbal)
